In a now-deleted Telegram post, Dark Storm shared screenshots demonstrating their success in taking X offline, claiming to have executed the attack without political motivations, merely as a show of strength. Ed Krassenstein, a notable social media figure and NFT marketplace co-founder, engaged with Dark Storm’s leader and reiterated their non-political justification for such cyber actions.
The group has been active since 2023 and is primarily recognized for targeting NATO countries, making this incident part of a broader global context of cyber warfare and digital aggression. Following the attack, Elon Musk, owner of X, confirmed the platform’s vulnerability, stating during an interview that the attack’s IP address appeared to originate from the Ukraine region.
