Is Altseason 2025 Imminent? Analyzing Current Market Trends

TL;DR

  • Bitcoin skyrocketed to another all-time high in 2025 just a day ago, and now the focus has moved toward the altcoins, as many of them struggle well below their peaks.
  • Some of the most popular crypto content creators believe the long-anticipated altcoins season is about to start.

Not Here Yet, but Maybe Soon?

Speaking on X, Vandell, co-founder of Black Swan Capitalist, remarked that the altcoin season hasn’t dawned yet, primarily because interest rates in the US are remaining elevated for an extended period. This follows the US Federal Reserve’s decisions to keep interest rates steady during numerous FOMC meetings, albeit a reduction is anticipated later this year.

Vandell posits that the beginning of monetary expansion is at hand, which could pave the way for the next phase in capital investment, potentially channeling more funds into riskier assets like cryptocurrencies.

Crypto Rover, addressing his 1.2 million followers on X, raised a pertinent question regarding why this wave would differ from all previous cycles, where an altseason often followed. Coinvo expressed optimism that the window for significant gains through altcoins is approaching, even if current sentiment does not reflect it.

Meanwhile, AltcoinGordon pointed out Ethereum’s rise to and briefly above $2,700 as a notable indicator that the altcoin season may indeed be here. Ethereum’s trajectory shifted significantly from a nadir of under $1,400 in mid-April to its current position, signaling a potential shift in market dynamics.

Falling Bitcoin Dominance

A critical indicator of the cryptocurrency landscape is Bitcoin’s dominance. An increase in Bitcoin’s market share marks a period of BTC dominance, whereas a decline suggests heightened interest in altcoins. Following the US elections, Bitcoin dominance soared to nearly 62%, only to tumble below 55% in early December amid altcoin rallies.

Recently, it has been on a modest upward trend, peaking above 65% earlier this month before settling at around 63.5% at the present.

While it is still early in the cycle, the uptick in Bitcoin dominance, coupled with insights from analysts like Carl Moon, suggests that we might be on the cusp of an altcoin season.

However, it is vital to approach these signals with caution, as the cryptocurrency market often behaves contrarily to prevailing sentiments. Consequently, the keen anticipation among analysts and influencers for an altseason may not bode well for altcoin holders in the near term.
