Gnosis Chain Set to Launch Pectra Hard Fork: A Leap Forward in Usability

[PRESS RELEASE – Berlin, Germany, April 30th, 2025]

Gnosis Chain, recognized for its secure, resilient, and decentralized infrastructure, is excited to announce the implementation of its Pectra hard fork on April 30—one week ahead of Ethereum’s scheduled adoption. This strategic move marks Gnosis as the first sidechain confirming the full Pectra upgrade, which aims to enhance usability through the inclusion of 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), specifically curated to optimize performance and functionality.

Key enhancements feature heightened staking capabilities, advanced smart contract functionality for wallets (EIP-7702), account abstraction, and the ability to sponsor transaction fees. These upgrades stand to make Gnosis Chain not only more flexible but also more accessible to users. Following two successful testnet trials conducted in March—Chiado on Gnosis Chain and Hoodi on Ethereum—Gnosis is well-prepared for the full-scale implementation. Ethereum is set to follow suit with its Pectra upgrade on May 7.

Philippe Schommers, Head of Infrastructure at Gnosis, noted, “At Gnosis Chain, our goal is to be a network that accelerates the adoption of Ethereum – we prioritize being a valuable contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem. Pectra is set to transform user experience on Ethereum, which has at times been a challenge. As we implement Pectra, we hope Ethereum gains valuable insights from our experience. We’re adopting the full update with the exception of blob schedules, and we expect to be the only sidechain to do so in the immediate future.”

The Pectra hard fork promises a plethora of beneficial features, including transaction batching, sponsored and conditional transactions, as well as delegated security. These enhancements will significantly streamline onchain interactions for users. Furthermore, the upgrade will raise the validator staking cap from 1 GNO to 64 GNO, allowing larger validators to participate while still offering smaller validators the benefit of compounding rewards. This adjustment, enabled by MaxEB (EIP-7251), optimizes staking operations by increasing the maximum effective balance for validators. Overall, Pectra aims to deliver a range of user experience improvements for users, validators, and developers alike.

Armagan Ercan, Validator Relations Manager at Gnosis, expressed, “The benefits are scalability and ease of use, for both validators and users. We don’t anticipate any disruption or downtime during the upgrade. We’ll be in regular communication with our users, developers, and validators throughout the process, and we’ll have a public stream during the hard fork to keep everyone informed about what’s happening.”

With the Pectra upgrade, Gnosis anticipates a significant boost in operational efficiency, which is likely to result in reduced power requirements for running nodes and fewer missed attestations. Moreover, it will bring features such as automatic compounding and account abstraction. Those interested can watch the public stream for the implementation here.
