Apple is reportedly making strides in developing its first pair of smart glasses, alongside new processors for various product categories, including artificial intelligence and computing devices. A recent Bloomberg report reveals that the tech giant is keen on extending its product lineup with innovative microchips tailored for upcoming devices.
The smart glasses will be powered by a specialized chip with the codename N401. This processor draws inspiration from the Apple Watch chips but has been further optimized for power efficiency. It is designed to manage multiple cameras integrated into the glasses, enabling functionalities that align with Apple’s high standards of performance.
Initial versions of the smart glasses are set to be non-augmented reality, similar to offerings from rivals such as Meta. Features will likely include capturing photos, recording videos, and providing smart translation options. These capabilities are expected to enhance everyday experiences for users.
Additionally, there are plans to integrate a visual intelligence feature that could assist users in scanning their environment, identifying objects, and obtaining information regarding products. This level of interactivity could redefine how users engage with their surroundings.
Production is slated to begin in late 2026 or early 2027, targeting a product launch around two years from now. This timeline positions Apple to potentially rival Meta’s smart Ray-Bans in the competitive landscape of smart eyewear.
Beyond smart glasses, Apple is also working on next-generation processors for future Macs and AI servers, which will enhance the firm’s “Apple Intelligence” platform. Sources indicate that Apple is developing different types of semiconductors, including M6 and M7 chips, which are expected to follow the current M5 series.
Dedicated Apple AI Chips
Further underscoring its commitment to innovation, Apple is in the process of creating dedicated AI server chips under the project codename “Baltra.” These chips may boast significantly enhanced processing and graphics capabilities, aiming for completion by 2027.
